Brink began working at stores as well as singing in bars. She was searching for groups. After a few years, Chris Howorth, a member of the current band she is in now attended an interview with her. Howorth did not want to talk with her due to the fact she is female. After hearing her performance, he changed his mind. Along with drummer Jeff Fabb, they created the Dying Stars. In the following years the guitarist Blake Bunzel joined the band as did Bassist Josh Newell. In This Moment became the new band's name after two live shows.
